Dear friends of the seminary,

Lent began memorably this year at Mater Dei Seminary. Despite challenging weather conditions that hindered us from being able to go into Omaha, Ash Wednesday ceremonies proceeded solemnly within the seminary chapel, marking an unexpected yet fitting start to this sacred season of penance and prayer.

On March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation was celebrated with beautiful solemnity. Both Solemn High Mass and Solemn Vespers were offered, reminding us of the profound mystery of the Incarnation and inspiring the seminarians and faithful alike.

Our newest seminarian recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation and was vested with the cassock in a ceremony held in the seminary chapel. Academically, classes at the seminary continue to progress steadily. Meanwhile, the deacons have entered into their retreat, preparing themselves for their upcoming ordinations scheduled for April 29th. Please keep them in your prayers during this important time in their vocation journey.

Holy Week is rapidly approaching, and many seminarians will soon embark on missions across the country, assisting priests in various chapels and churches. This missionary effort offers invaluable practical experience, enriching both the churches they serve and their own spiritual formation.

Significant progress has also been made on our new classroom facility. Recent weeks have seen essential developments, including electrical installations, insulation, drywall, and mudding. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the men from St. Joseph’s Men’s Group from Mary Immaculate Church, who generously gave their time and energy one Saturday, greatly accelerating the project’s completion.

Lastly, we are excited to announce the acquisition of a new outdoor statue of St. Philomena, destined to grace a shrine currently being constructed on the seminary grounds. This shrine will provide another beautiful place for prayer and reflection, honoring a beloved saint known for her powerful intercession.

We thank you for your continued prayers and support. May God bless you abundantly during this holy season!

In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Borja
